Outlets in the kitchen keep tripping the GFCI
Outlets in the kitchen keep tripping the GFCI, is this dangerous?
The GFCI outlet in our kitchen keeps tripping, sometimes when nothing's even plugged into it, and I'm not sure whether this is a nuisance or a sign of something more serious. I've reset it a few times but it keeps happening, and now I'm worried there's a fault somewhere in the wiring that could be a fire risk. I want to learn more here about what causes repeated GFCI trips before I decide whether to call someone out, since I don't want to ignore something that could be dangerous. Has anyone had this happen and what did it turn out to be? Also, is it usually the outlet itself failing, or does it point to a problem elsewhere on the circuit? I'd rather understand what I'm dealing with than just keep resetting it.
